School Leaders
Hi there,
In the year 2020 the school leaders have been doing a lot of different activities. We have worked well together by collaborating and the students have enjoyed our events.
On October 16th the school leaders organised a pink shirt day, where everyone brought a pink shirt and a gold coin donation. At lunch we got together on the court and had a giant whole school photo.
Some time in the end of term 3, we held a Chase Event for the juniors. They got into teams of 4, and answered questions. We had really strange questions, like; name a teacher, A. Whaea Elliephant, B. Whaea Eggplant, C. Whaea Ellie. Guess which one is right! Everyone laughed, answered with strange answers. Eventually we ran out of time.
In Lockdown, we organised a Crazy Shirt day Zoom Meeting for each class. This year we have been through a lot. But we hope that the rest of the school enjoyed our events. We put time and effort into them and had a successful reaction.

Junior Neighbourhood SupportHi, I’m Alyssa. I will be writing about my journey as a Junior Neighbourhood Support leader, along with Millie. In case you don’t know, Junior Neighbourhood Support leaders are leaders that help look after the environment, and encourage others to do the same. Often we would give out a gift bag, and a certificate at assemblies, but because of the COVID-19 outbreak, we weren’t able to. Other than that, we have still been able to do some fun activities.
The first activity we completed was something called ‘Grab Bags’. The grab bags are very useful at certain times. They included all the things you would need incase of an emergency. One lunch time, Millie and I met up with Elissa and started to fill them up with all the things you would need in an emergency. We had enough bags for one for each class. By the next day, all the bags were in the classrooms. Another one of the activities we have done is something called ‘Nature Play’. The whole point of Nature Play is to see how people would play if all they had were pinecones, shells, and a bunch of other nature based items. So far this has worked out well, we have dug some holes in the ground so we can store all of the items. A few weeks after the Nature Play area had been active, we decided we were going to weave some baskets. So one lunchtime, Millie and I met up with Elissa and she taught us how to weave baskets, along with some other children from the Harakeke team. It ended up taking us around two hours to complete them. Once we had finished, we all took them home and we're going to give them to someone, as it was our first basket. Another activity we have done is skipping. One lunchtime Millie and I met up with Elissa. Elissa had a long skipping rope in her car, so two people could hold onto each end. We did the skipping by the court. At first there were only a few people coming to skip, but by the end of lunch we had lots more. Although lockdown happened, I think we still achieved lots of fun activities for the school to enjoy. By Alyssa and Millie |
