Flickering Lights, Dark Shadows...
She was walking down the old, mostly deserted street. She felt a tingle down her spine. She knew someone or something was watching her. She turned around but the only light was the flickering of the broken street lamp. She couldn’t see anything through the murkiness of the night. A stick was snapped somewhere close. She was worried now. She took a deep breath and called out into the night. “Hello?” Her echo was the only response. She shook herself and carried on. A meow came behind her. She whipped around but she still couldn’t see anything. The street light was flickering worse now. When the light was momentarily on, she could see a shadow. A shadow that started out small, but got bigger as it evidently came close to her. Her heart was pounding. She could hear steps on the concrete, getting louder and louder. The steps stopped. It was almost here. She braced herself for the worst. It stepped into the light. It was a… Kitten. She exhaled and laughed. Laughed and laughed until the kitten was closer. She slowly walked over to it and it meowed again. She picked it up. It was cold and shivering. She walked home with it. She had gotten all worked up over nothing. But still, whenever she walked down that street, she couldn’t shake that feeling… |
Sushi Train!
(Note the Google Translate was used to do the Japanese parts so they may not be exactly correct) “Nori! Nigiri o Getto! Get the Nigiri! We’re running low!” I nod and dash over to Hina and Himari, the twin Nigiri makers. “Nigiri ga hitsuyōdesu, junbi wa arimasu ka? I need some Nigiri, have any prepared?” I asked hurriedly. Hina nods. “Hai, dōzo! Yes, here you go!” I rush back over to Uncle Hiroshi. “Koko ni! Here!” He takes the plate and I help with the cashiers, Haruki and Yua. “Konnichiwa, watashi wa anata-tachi o tasukeru tame ni koko ni imasu. Hi, i’m here to help you guys.” They nod while tallying up more customers' food expenses. “Konnichiwa, genkidesuka? Hi, how are you?” I say to a customer. She’s a young woman with her black hair in a tightly pulled back bun. “Koko ni nigiri wa arimasu ka? Do you serve Nigiri here?” She asks in a surprisingly sharp voice. “Hai, mōsugu aru hazudesu. Yes, there should be some soon.” I reply. She nods and walks away. My eyes follow here to a table with her work friends. She soon gets some Nigiri. I look at my watch and I realize my shift is over. I quickly take off my apron, hang it up, and say good-bye to Uncle Hiroshi. Then I burst out the door into the fresh morning air- Wait, morning air? I look at my watch. It says 7:10am. Not pm. I groan and stalk back inside my work, and wait until 7pm this time… |
